New Delhi: Railways is set to introduce a major upgrade to its passenger reservation system, with the rollout beginning in August 2026, according to reports.
The upgrade will replace the existing Passenger Reservation System (PRS), which has been in use since 1986. The transition marks one of the most significant overhauls of the railway ticketing infrastructure in decades.
As part of the rollout plan, Indian Railways will begin shifting trains to the new system in phases starting August. The aim is to ensure a smooth transition from the old platform to the upgraded system without causing inconvenience to passengers.
The new system is expected to improve ticket booking efficiency and enhance passenger experience, with a focus on higher capacity and more modern technology, including AI. The transition process will be managed in a way that avoids disruption to ongoing train services, the India Today reported.
