Mumbai: Hrithik Roshan’s much-awaited superhero film ‘Krrish 4’ recently found itself at the centre of controversy after reports suggested that the actor’s alleged Rs 500-crore remuneration demand had led to the film being stalled.
Amid speculation, filmmaker Rakesh Roshan has dismissed ‘baseless’ reports of Hrithik demanding Rs 500 crore.
“It’s all nonsense that Hrithik has asked for a Rs 500 crore budget for top-tier VFX and world-class action for his directorial debut, while YRF (Yash Raj Films) wants to cap costs at Rs 350 crore. Making a good film catering to a (wide) audience takes time. Even I have taken time for each of my Krrish offerings,” Rakesh was quoted as saying by Mid-Day.
Explaining why ‘Krrish 4’ is yet to begin production, the veteran filmmaker revealed that Hrithik is currently occupied with commitments related to the production company he launched earlier this year.
“Krrish (Hrithik) is on another planet and we are all waiting for his dates,” Rakesh joked. “There are no issues, all is smooth. It’s teamwork between Adi, Hrithik and me.”
Speculation began when a report by trade portal Sacnilk claimed that ‘Krrish 4’ has been delayed due to ongoing discussions between Hrithik and Yash Raj Films head Aditya Chopra over the film’s budget.
As per the report, Aditya is said to favour a budget of around Rs 350 crore to ensure the project remains financially viable. Hrithik, on the other hand, wanted a much grander spectacle for his directorial debut and is believed to be pushing for a budget closer to Rs 500 crore.
Hrithik’s last big YRF project, ‘War 2’ failed at the box office.
Acknowledging the ‘War 2’ setback while attending an event in Dubai, the actor said, “That’s very kind of you… You know, my film just bombed at the box office, so it feels very good to get all the love. Thank you.”
