Bhubaneswar: In a horrific road mishap near Sainik School in Bhubaneswar, two persons were killed and four others critically injured after a speeding car rammed into multiple vehicles and ran over people standing along the road on Monday.
According to preliminary information, the accident took place when the car reportedly lost control and rammed into several vehicles parked along the roadside.
Locals said the electric vehicle (EV) was travelling from Press Chhak towards MCL Office Road at a high speed when the driver reportedly lost control of the wheels. The vehicle first hit a parked auto-rickshaw and several motorcycles on the roadside before ramming into a group of people standing near a tea stall.
The impact left six people injured, four of whom sustained serious injuries. Locals rushed to the spot soon after the accident and rescued the victims before shifting them to a nearby private hospital for treatment. However, doctors declared two of the injured brought dead.
Following the crash, the driver allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. Efforts are on to trace him.
The identities of the deceased and the injured are yet to be ascertained.
Upon receiving information, a police team reached the spot, seized the vehicle, and initiated an investigation. Efforts are underway to trace the absconding driver and determine the exact cause of the accident.
