Pune: Ten days after the alleged murder of 26-year-old businessman Ketan Agarwal, Pune Rural Police on Sunday recreated the crime scene at Lohagad Fort in Maharashtra as part of their ongoing investigation into the case.
The police took the two accused—Ketan’s fiancée, Siya Goyal, and her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary—to the fort where investigators believe Agarwal was pushed into a gorge on June 18. The reconstruction exercise was aimed at establishing the sequence of events leading to his death and verifying the statements made by the accused during interrogation.
Investigators reportedly made the accused retrace their movements from the parking area to the spot where Ketan fell. The exercise was conducted under tight security, with access to parts of the fort temporarily restricted while police detailed the reconstruction.
According to investigators, the accused had allegedly pre-planned the murder. Police suspect the duo lured Ketan to the fort under the pretext of celebrating Siya’s birthday before allegedly pushing him off the cliff in an attempt to make the death look accidental. Earlier in the probe, police claimed the two had researched methods of killing and carried out reconnaissance at the fort before executing the incident.
Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary were arrested on June 23 and are in police custody. Investigators are continuing to gather forensic and circumstantial evidence, with the crime scene reconstruction expected to aid the prosecution’s case.
The case, which initially appeared to be a trekking accident, turned into a murder investigation after victim’s family questioned the circumstances surrounding his death, prompting a detailed probe that uncovered an alleged conspiracy.
