Mumbai: Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke courted controversy after calling comedian Samay Raina “privileged” during a recent interaction.
The remark quickly went viral, prompting social media users to question Dipke’s own background, with many pointing to his education in the United States and accusing him of hypocrisy.
During an appearance on Unfiltered by Samdish, Dipke opened up about his favourite stand-up comedians before discussing Raina’s show and his reasons for staying away from it.
When the host asked Abhijeet, “Wouldn’t it be fun if you are called to attend India’s Got Latent?”, he immediately refused.
“I will not go to India’s Got Latent. I don’t like it. Because the thinking that ‘Why should we fight. We should take the easy route and get out’. You will be able to get out because you are privileged,” he said.
Some social media users agreed with Abhijeet’s views, but many questioned his remarks, pointing out that he had pursued a Masters degree in Public Relations at Boston University in the United States.
Several users argued that calling Raina “privileged” was ironic given Dipke’s own educational background.
One commented, “He was in USA and he’s not privileged?”
Another remarked, “Privileged?? This guy studied in Boston so stop giving us this eveyone is a priviliged non sense.”
One wrote, “Wasn’t he in USA? Is he not privileged.”

In his stand-up special Still Alive, Samay reflected on the controversy surrounding the first season of India’s Got Latent, which also involved Ranveer Allahbadia and led to multiple FIRs being filed against them.
During the performance, Samay recalled that in the aftermath of the row, a Mumbai police officer advised him to apologise over the incident.
Recalling the controversy, Raina said, “During the time, I remembered George Orwell’s line, ‘Every joke is a tiny revolution and the joke must never stop.’ But the police had also told me that ‘We will put you in jail.’ Then I thought if Orwell was in India, he would have said, ‘Every revolution is a tiny joke.’ I thought it makes sense to say sorry, you can’t bring revolution in our society by a joke. You only fight when the fight is fair, if not, you should f*** off from there.”
Following the controversy, Raina removed all episodes of India’s Got Latent Season 1 from YouTube.
He made a comeback with Season 2, which premiered on June 20.
The new season was released simultaneously on YouTube and Netflix, with ‘Alpha’ stars Alia Bhatt and Sharvari appearing as guests in the first episode.
The episode has crossed 45 million views on YouTube, while the show remained the No. 1 title on Netflix for over a week.
