Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Tuesday increased bus fares across all categories following a hike in diesel prices, according to an order issued by the State Transport Authority.
The revised fares take effect immediately upon issuance of the order. The fresh hike in bus fares comes barely a fortnight after the state government increased the rates on May 15.
According to the revised fare structure, passengers travelling in ordinary buses will now pay 92 paise per kilometre, up from the existing 90 paise per kilometre.
Similarly, the fare for express buses has been increased from 94 paise to 96 paise per kilometre.
The fare for deluxe buses has been revised from Rs 1.31 per kilometre to Rs 1.35 per kilometre, while passengers travelling in AC deluxe buses will now have to pay ₹1.63 per kilometre compared to the earlier Rs 1.59 per kilometre.
The highest increase has been recorded in the super deluxe category, where the fare has gone up from Rs 2.47 per kilometre to Rs 2.53 per kilometre.
The fare revision comes after diesel prices shot up from Rs 95.87 per litre on May 15 to Rs 100.68 per litre on May 31, 2026, prompting an increase of Rs 4.81 per litre in direct cost. The new rates apply to all stage carriages operating within the state, excluding town buses.
Officials said the adjustment reflects cumulative fuel cost increases and ensures operational sustainability for bus operators.
