Bhubaneswar: For the first time in eastern India, three eminent experts from Cochrane South Asia centre at the Christian Medical College, Vellore, are imparting training to health care professionals on development of Cochrane Systematic Reviews at a 3-day workshop which began at the SOA University on Thursday.
Cochrane is a British non-profit, non-governmental outfit constituted to organize medical research findings so as to facilitate evidence-based choices about health interventions faced by health professionals, patients and policy makers.
Cochrane Reviews are systematic reviews of primary research in human health care and health policy, and are internationally recognized as the highest standard in evidence based health care resources which investigate into the effects of interventions for prevention, treatment and rehabilitation, Prof. Neeta Mohanty, Dean of the Institute of Dental Sciences (IDS), the faculty of dental science of the SOA University which is the venue of the workshop, said.
The workshop will be a conglomerate of presentations, interactions and hands-on sessions intended for medical, dental, nursing and other health care professionals, she said.
Dr Thambu David Sudarshanam, Professor, Department of Medicine and Director, Cochrane South Asia at CMC, Vellore, Jabez Paul Barnabas, Information Specialist, CSA and Richard Kirubakaran, Biostatistician, CSA, are the three resource persons conducting the workshop.
The workshop was inaugurated by Director of AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, Prof Gitanjali Batmanabane, who urged the participants to take keen interest in research and learn how to get evidence, shift the wheat from the chaff and acquire the needed skill.
