New Delhi: On Saturday, Delhi Police took to X to debunk social media rumors claiming that an FIR was filed against protesters from the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) following their Jantar Mantar demonstration.
Via its official post, Delhi Police clarified: “Certain social media posts and news reports are claiming that Delhi Police has registered an FIR against the protesters at Jantar Mantar.” The post strongly cautioned against misinformation, adding: “Citizens are advised not to believe or circulate unverified information. Please rely only on official updates issued by Delhi Police.”
This clarification erupted amidst intense online conversations sparked by the youth-led movement’s protest.
No FIR Filed: Police
According to The Economic Times, assorted reports and online posts had hinted that authorities launched legal proceedings against protest attendees at Jantar Mantar.
Delhi Police, however, explicitly confirmed that no FIR was registered over the demonstration.
Authorities called on the public to cross-check facts via official sources before reposting online, underscoring the need to halt false or deceptive narratives.
Six Detained
Morning hours saw Delhi Police confirm the preventive detention of six people designed to ward off potential clashes between opposing groups near the protest site.
Officials revealed that police intelligence flagged possible friction between factions supporting and opposing the digital movement.
These detentions aimed to uphold law and order while guaranteeing a peaceful conclusion to the protest.
Per officials, the six were held in preventive custody after reportedly trying to stir unrest close to the demonstration area.
Ahead of the protest, Delhi Police rolled out massive security operations. Over 1,000 police officers were stationed throughout New Delhi district plus other vulnerable spots across the capital.
Enhanced security protocols were activated at Indira Gandhi International Airport and key border checkpoints.
Top-ranking officers kept close watch on developments, while barricades surrounded Jantar Mantar to control crowd flow and separate opposing groups.
CJP’s Exam-Irregularity Roots
The Cockroach Janta Party began as a youth-dominated internet movement after exam and recruitment fraud allegations surfaced.
Proponents have voiced outrage over tests including NEET, CUET, CBSE-affiliated exams, and Staff Selection Commission (SSC) hiring processes.
In recent weeks, the group widened its footprint via social media drives pushing for exam-system transparency, accountability, and reform.
The Jantar Mantar event became one of the movement’s biggest public rallies yet.
Verify Before Sharing, Police Urge
Post-protest, Delhi Police reaffirmed the necessity of depending on verified official information.
The X clarification aimed to debunk FIR rumors and stop online misinformation cascades.
Though preventive detentions maintained order, police confirmed no FIR targeted demonstration participants.
Authorities keep monitoring developments and told citizens to tread carefully before circulating unconfirmed social media claims.
