Fisherman Nets Fish Weighing Over 400 Kg In Odisha’s Paradip
Paradip: A fisherman virtually netted a fortune as he caught a fish weighing more than 400 kg from Mahanadi river in Odisha’s Paradip.
According to sources, some fishermen from the port town had gone for fishing in Mahanadi. While fishing at Chaumuhana, the confluence of four rivers, a fisherman netted the huge fish.
The fish is so huge that the fishermen could not load it in their boat and had to drag it through the water to the river bank. The fish is locally called Chakuli or Sankar.
The fisherman auctioned the fish for Rs 67,000 in the local market. Since this species of fish does not have much demand in Odisha, the bidder took it for sale in Digha fish market in neighbouring West Bengal.
“Such a huge fish has not been caught by any fisherman in recent past. Similar fish was caught by the fishermen from the sea last year. But those were of smaller size. The one that was caught today was so big that it could not be loaded to a trolley despite the efforts of 10 people,” said the fishermen.
