Floating Bridge Vessel Gets Stranded In Odisha’s Chilika Lake Again
Bhubaneswar: For the second time in less than two months, a floating bridge vessel got stranded in Chilika lake on Sunday evening.
According to sources, the incident took place when the floating bridge vessel was ferrying around 30 people and some vehicles from Satapada to Jahnikuda in Puri district at around 5 pm. The vessel was detached from the main channel and stuck midway.
On being informed, the Chilika Development Authority (CDA), which manages the vessel, sent another vessel with an earthmover to the spot. The second vessel managed to pull the stranded bridge vessel from the place and toed it to safety.
Later, all the passengers and 15 two-wheelers and a mini-bus were sent to their destinations safely.
This is second such incident in the same stretch of the brackish water lake in the state in less than two months. A floating bridge vessel carrying passengers and vehicles had got stranded on February 6. On January 20 also, similar incident took place.
The sources said the heavy vessel is frequently getting stranded on this stretch due to reduced water level.
