Dubai: Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav, popularly called SKY, has been fined 30 per cent of his match fee for Pahalgam terror attack-related’ comments after the Asia Cup group league match against Pakistan at Dubai on September 14, PTI reported.
when he alluded to the military skirmish between the two countries in May, the tournament organisers said on Friday.
Pakistan had filed a complaint against SKY with the International Cricket Council (ICC) for making political comments, as he dedicated Team India’s 7-wicket win over the arch foes to the victims of the April 22 Pahalgam attack and the Indian Armed forces.
“Perfect occasion, taking the time out — we stand by the families of the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. We express our solidarity. Want to dedicate the win to all our armed forces who showed a lot of bravery. Hope they continue to inspire us all, and we give them more reasons on the ground whenever we get an opportunity to make them smile,” SKY had said at the post-match presentation.
Suryakumar, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, was told not to make any statement that could be construed as political in the remainder of the tournament.
Haris Rauf fined, Farhan escapes
Pakistani cricketers Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan were also summoned by match referee Richie Rihardson for hearings on their provocative gestures.
PTI quoted sources as informing that pacer Rauf has been fined 30 per cent of his match fee for abusive behaviour and making aggressive gestures of planes coming down and ‘6-0’, apparently suggesting six Indian fighter jets being shot down during the four-day military conflict between India and Pakistan in May.
Opener Farhan, however, escaped with just a warning for his open-air gunshot celebration after completing his half-century.
