Kolkata: Former RG Kar Medical College & Hospital principal Sandip Ghosh and suspended police officer Abhijit Mondal were on Friday granted bail in the shocking rape and murder case of an on-duty trainee doctor at the Kolkata hospital four months ago.
The additional chief judicial magistrate (ACJM) of Sealdah court granted bail to the accused duo as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) did not file supplementary chargesheet within the mandatory 90-day period, PTI reported quoting a lawyer representing Ghosh.
Ghosh, however, will remain behind bars as he is on judicial remand in another case of alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital.
Ghosh was accused of tampering of evidence in the case, while former Tala police station OC Mondal was accused of delay in filing FIR after the body of the junior doctor was found in a semi-naked state on August 9.
Ghosh and Mondal were arrested by the CBI, which took over the investigation from Kolkata Police five days after the crime, on the Calcutta High Court’s order.
Mondal’s lawyer told mediapersons outside the court that he will walk out of the correctional home where he is incarcerated on judicial remand.
