Zurich: In the latest knife attack incident in Europe, a 31-year-old man went on a stabbing spree at a train station in Switzerland on Thursday.
Four people were stabbed and wounded in the attack which took place around 8.30 am (local time) at the Winterthur train station, in northeastern Switzerland near Zurich.
Zurich regional police said the suspect, a Swiss national, was taken into custody after the incident.
Swiss newspaper Tages-Anzeiger reported that the attacker stabbed four men across three locations at the station. The condition of the injured persons were not immediately known.
Reports quoted witnesses as saying that the suspect repeatedly shouted “Allahu Akbar” during the attack.
A group of school children were at the scene during the attack and had just passed the knife-wielding man before a teacher stepped in to protect them.
“He had a knife in his hand. Everyone was screaming and running away,” a witness told Swiss outlet Blick.
The motive behind the stabbing was not immediately clear, and is under investigation. The conditions of the injured were not immediately known.
