Kendrapara: In a brave act, a minor boy managed to save a 22-year-old youth from drowning in Brahmani river while two others were washed away in Odisha’s Kendrapada district on Saturday.
As per reports, 10-year-old Rudra Prasad of Nimapur village under Pattamundai block in the district saw three youths struggling to save themselves as they were driven away by a strong current in the river. He threw his mother’s saree towards them and managed to pull one youth out of the river.
Unfortunately, he could not save two others who drowned in deep water. The youth, who was saved, has been identified as Badal.
“I saw one youth flowing away in the water current and the other trying to hold his hand and pulling him towards him. Soon, he too started being drifted away and another youth was trying to hold his hand and pull him away from the current. I snatched my mother’s saree and threw it towards them. One youth caught it and I managed to pull him out,” Rudra told the media.
The two youths, who got washed away, have been identified as Javed and Ajit from Agra in Uttar Pradesh. They worked as painters in a cement company in the area. They had gone to Brahmani along with their co-workers to freshen up after work when they were flown away by the water current.
A search is underway in the Brahmani to trace Javed and Ajit.
