Cuttack: Charges were framed against former MP and actor Anubhav Mohanty after he appeared in Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court here on Thursday in connection with a four-year-old domestic violence case registered against him by his now-divorced wife Varsha Priyadarshini.
He and two of his associates have been charged under Sections 506 (criminal intimidation),509 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult the the modesty of a woman), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), 498A (torture of a married woman by her husband or family) of the IPC.
Speaking to the media, Anubhav said that there is no truth or authentication in the allegations.
In December 2020, his former wife Varsha Priyadarshini lodged a complaint with Purighat police station, alleging that Anubhav and two of his friends had locked her in a room in his house at Nandi Sahi in Cuttack on the night December 18 even as the estranged couple were locked in a divorce battle with the actress seeking restitution of conjugal rights.
A police team had then reached the house of the then Parliamentarian and rescued her.
On the basis of her complaint, a case was also registered under Sections 498A, 341, and 506 of the IPC against Anubhav and two of his associates.
