Odisha MP Nominated For A Second Time To Samsad (Court) Of Visva Bharati

Bhubaneswar: BJP MP from Odisha Amar Patnaik had been nominated as a member of Samsad (Court) of Visva Bharati.

This will be his second stint with the Samsad. He was a member till May this year.

Besides him, another Rajya Sabha member, Vivek Thakur, has been nominated to Samsad by Chairman Venkaiah Naidu.

According to Visva Bharati Act, the power and functions of the Samsad are:-

(a) To review, from time to time, the broad policies and programmes of the university, including maintenance of standards and adherence to its objectives and to suggest measures for its development and improvement, which would be considered by the appropriate authorities of the varsity.

(b) To consider and pass resolutions on the annual report and annual accounts of the University and the report of its auditors on such accounts;

(c) To advise the Paridarsaka (Visitor) on any matter referred to it.

(d) To exercise other powers and perform other functions as prescribed by the Statutes.

Patnaik had served as the Principal Accountant General (PAG) in Odisha, Kerala and West Bengal, before joining the BJD in 2018. He was nominated by the party as the state representative to the Rajya Sabha the following year.
