Jamshedpur: A 35-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death late Tuesday night in Kharangajhar Line Tola area under Parsudih police limits, in an incident sparked by suspected marital jealousy and allegations of an illicit relationship.
The deceased has been identified as Mohan Soren, an Odisha native from Chakri village who worked as a driver. His family currently resides in the Naya Basti area of Sundernagar.The Fatal Dispute
According to local police, Soren was a frequent visitor to the home of Raju Murmu in Kharangajhar Line Tola. Soren reportedly referred to Murmu’s wife, Savita, as his “Mami” (aunt) and maintained close, familial ties with the household. However, local sources indicate that Raju Murmu harboured deep-seated suspicions regarding the nature of their closeness, which had previously triggered frequent domestic disputes.
The tension reached a boiling point on Tuesday night. A heated argument escalated into a violent physical assault, during which Soren was brutally beaten. He sustained severe, fatal injuries at the scene.
Upon receiving a tip-off, a team from the Parsudih police station rushed to the location, recovered Soren’s body, and sent it for postmortem. Jairam Murmu, identified as the owner of the house where the crime took place, was also arrested within hours of the incident.
Sources close to the investigation reveal a complex domestic situation immediately preceding the murder.
During interrogation, Savita Murmu vehemently denied any inappropriate relationship with the deceased, maintaining that Soren strictly viewed her as a relative. She disclosed that her husband had assaulted her earlier that same Tuesday evening. Fearing for her safety, she fled the house with her two children to take shelter at a neighbor’s residence. According to her statement, she only discovered Soren had been killed when she returned home the following morning.
“We are investigating the case from all possible angles. This includes verifying the exact sequence of events leading up to the fatal assault, interrogating the arrested individual, and corroborating the statements provided by the family members,” a senior police official stated.
