Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has approached the Delhi High Court seeking a stay on the release of ‘Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy’, alleging “gross violation of personality rights,” as the film is allegedly based on the 1998 blackbuck hunting case related to him.
The high court has sought the response of the makers of ‘Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy’ on Salman’s plea seeking to restrain the film’s release, reported Live Law. A vacation bench of Justice Neena Bansal Krishna issued notice to Amit Jani, Akshay Pandey and others on Salman’s application in the matter and listed it for hearing on June 19.
As part of an ongoing commercial suit before the Delhi High Court, Salman filed the application under Order XXXIX Rules 1 and 2 of the Code of Civil Procedure seeking an ad-interim injunction against the makers of ‘Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy’.
As per the petition, the actor argues that although the film does not explicitly mention his name, its posters, promotional material and public statements by those linked to the project make him easily identifiable to audiences.
The actor has further alleged that media reports and statements attributed to producer Jani describe the film as being inspired by the blackbuck poaching case and the controversy involving gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
The petition cites interviews, social media posts and promotional content that allegedly connect the film to Salman, claiming that his public image is being used to generate publicity and commercial interest.
Salman had previously issued a legal notice on April 24, asking those associated with the project to cease and desist from developing, producing and promoting the film.
