Orissa High Court Directs Crime Branch To Take Over Aspiring Model Soumya Ranjan’s Death Case
Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Friday directed the state Crime Branch to take over the death case of aspiring model Soumya Rajan Panigrahi, as the investigation into the case made little progress even after a year of the incident.
The court order comes following a plea submitted by the deceased’s sister Soubhagyalakshmi in the court. In her plea, Souma Ranjan’s sister alleged that though the High Court directed the DCP to initiate necessary measures to get a move on the investigation and keep the family members updated regarding the progress of the probe within a stipulated time, nothing was done in this regard so far.
It is worth mentioning here that Soumya, an aspiring model, reportedly committed suicide in Kalarahanga within Infocity police limits of Bhubaneswar on January 30 last year. He was found hanging in his residence and a note, supposedly written by him, had been recovered from the spot.
The letter talked about a girl with whom the aspiring model was in a relationship but he was depressed after learning that she was developing intimacy with another person. Soumya Ranjan’s family members held the girl responsible for their son’s death.
