PM Narendra Modi Conferred With Bhutan’s Highest Civilian Award
Thimphu: Bhutan conferred its highest civilian award, Ngadag Pel gi Khorlo, on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday.
Announcing Modi’s name for the coveted award, Bhutan’s head of state Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck mentioned India’s “unconditional” friendship and support under Modi’s leadership, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bhutan was among the first countries to receive 1.5 lakh doses of Covishield vaccine from India as a gift in January. Thereafter, the Modi government sent 4 lakh additional doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to help in the Himalayan nation’s inoculation process.
