Jajpur: In a significant success against organised crime in Odisha, police on Wednesday claimed to have busted a gang of robbers with the arrest of five of its members and another man in Jajpur district.
Police said six individuals, including a receiver, were arrested in connection with several cases of dacoity in the early hours of Wednesday in Balichandrapur area of the district. Another person managed to escape.
The arrested persons have been identified as Amar Bhuyan (28), alias Pintu; Jitendra Rajbanshi (28), alias Jitu; Ashis Kumar Chhualsingh (18), alias Mitu; Ritua Malik (35), alias Ritu; Ratikanta Das (22); and receiver S K Jahirul (18). The absconding suspect, Kuna alias Santosh Kumar Behera, remains at large.
During the raid, police seized two pick-up trucks, a mini truck, an SUV, a cutter machine, a wire cutting machine, plastic sacks containing tools, cut pieces of electric poles, electric transformer coils, transformer oil, one sword, one toy gun, three crowbars, five mobile phones, and hexa blades.
The operation was launched based on a tip-off that a group of individuals had gathered in an open field near an eatery and were preparing to commit a dacoity at the electric stock yard near Pratarajpur High School. The Balichandrapur police’s night patrolling team swiftly raided the location, leading to the arrests. The accused have since been forwarded to court.
