SPIC MACAY’s Online Camp: Legends Of Classical Music, Dance To Enrich Students

As part of its effort to connect the youth with the living legends of classical music, dance, and other folk art forms during the Covid-19 crisis, SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth) will conduct a special series online from June 1 to 7.

Named SPIC MACAY Anubhav, it will be available on their YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/spicmacay.

Sitting at home, yet in an ashram-like routine, participants will get the opportunity to connect with some of the greatest Gurus through various activities like classical music and dance concerts, lecture demonstrations, intensives, workshops, talks, Naad yoga, Hatha Yoga, theatre, cinema classics, folk arts and crafts, cultural heritage and environmental interactions.

Among the renowned artists who will be participating in the online series are Padma Vibhushan awardees Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pandit Jasraj, Dr Karan Singh, Vid. Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman and Vid. Teejan Bai; Padma Bhushan awardees Pandit Rajan and Pandit Sajan Mishra, Shyam Benegal, Ghulam Md Sheikh, Prof. T. N. Krishnan, Dr. Prabha Atre, Dr N. Rajam, Dr L. Subramanium, Anna Hazare, Vid. Uma Sharma, Vid. Saroja Vaidyanathan, Vid. Padma Subramanyam, Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi.

Students, their parents and teachers will be given an orientation on the philosophy behind the Anubhav series, importance of following the routine with discipline, as well as an emphasis on holistic food and shramdaan. Selected students will get the opportunity to participate in the virtual workshops under the mentorship of esteemed Gurus.

The programme is open to students from all over the world. Over 12,000 students have registered so far.

The rigorous programme will run from 3.45 am to 10 pm (almost continuously) for about one week with an all-night session on the June 6 featuring Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Vidushi Ashwini Bhide-Deshpande, Vid. Kapila Venu, Ustad Shahid Parvez and Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar.

SPIC MACAY has been striving to enrich the quality of formal education among adolescents and youth by raising awareness about various aspects of Indian heritage and motivating young minds to imbibe those values for the last 43 years.
