Puri: A piece of stone fell from a structure on the premises of Shree Jagannath temple in Odisha’s Puri, triggering panic among devotees.
No one was injured when the small piece of stone fell from a structure located near Charcha Ghriha on Friday night.
According to reports, the stone weighing around 3 kg got dislodged from the third layer above the statue of Sakhi near the joining point of Nata Mandap and Jagmohan.
The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has informed the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) about the incident.
The the exact cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained.
This is the second such incident at the temple in past one week. A piece of stone had reportedly fallen from the same place on October 23.
On August 3 this year, a piece of plaster had fallen off the 12th century shrine’s roof. The lime plaster weighing around 1.5 kg detached from the roof in the sanctum sanctorum causing no harm to anyone or idols of deities inside the temple. The daily rituals were disrupted for a while due to the incident.
Later, the ASI made a statement that the lime plaster fell off the roof due to moisture at the spot.
