Srinagar: Hours before Narendra Modi was sworn in as India’s Prime Minister for a record third term, terror struck Jammu & Kashmir again.
Suspected terrorists opened fire on a bus carrying pilgrims, killing 10 people and leaving at least 33 others injured, in Jammu & Kashmir’s Reasi district on Sunday, police and officials said.
The bus. which was returning from Shiv Khori temple to Katra, suddenly came under attack.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Reasi Mohita Sharma said the driver lost balance of the bus and fell into a gorge because of the firing.
“Initial reports suggest that terrorists fired upon the passenger bus going from Shiv Khori to Katra. Due to the firing, the bus driver lost balance of the bus and it fell into a gorge. 33 people were injured in the incident. Rescue operation has been completed,” the senior cop told newspersons.
“The identities of passengers have not been confirmed yet, they are not locals. Shiv Khori shrine was secured and area domination was done,” she informed.
A massive rescue and search operation has been launched with reinforcements from police, Army and paramilitary forces being rushed to the spot, officials said.
Security forces believe the terrorists are hiding in the upper reaches of Rajouri, Poonch and Reasi.
