Patna: Educator Faisal Khan, better known as Khan Sir, has been named in an FIR after two of his security personnel fired shots into the air when a mob attacked and vandalised his coaching institute on June 2. The two guards were arrested on Thursday from the Musallahpur Hat area under Kadamkuan police station, and face charges including attempt to murder and violations of the Arms Act.

Investigators on the case said the District Investigation Unit (DIU) has been assigned to locate Khan, who was reported missing from the institute on Friday afternoon, AS reported by Hindustan Times.

Followed Khan Sir’s Orders: Guards

Police said the FIR was lodged after the detained guards told investigators they had discharged firearms on Khan Sir’s instructions.

They also alleged that Khan had instructed them to fire at the crowd assembled at the institute gate after one of the guards was beaten.

“The FIR was registered based on the statement of assistant sub-inspector Anil Kumar under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections 25, 27, and 35 of the Arms Act (relating to possession of illegal arms, and unlawful use of firearm. The guards confessed that they fired two rounds each after Khan told them to fire and assured them he would handle the fallout,” a police officer said.

Khan Claims Self-Defence

In a video statement released on Friday, Khan defended the guards’ actions as defensive.

“A clash was underway outside. Knowing that the police would take time to arrive, we fired in self-defence,” he said. Police, however, accused Khan of attempting to incite students by saying rival coaching centres would hike fees if his institute were forced to close.

According to a release from the City Superintendent of Police (Central), Patna, a group of people engaged in stone-pelting and vandalised the KGS centre at about 10.10 pm on June 2.

Case Registered

“Following the incident, case No. 410/26 was registered. During the probe, a video emerged showing two individuals engaging in aerial firing after the vandalism. The two guards were identified, detained, and their weapons seized for forensic examination. Based on the sequence of events, Khan Sir and two others were named in the FIR,” the police statement read.

Police warned students not to be influenced by messages from the coaching centre and stressed that law and order would be strictly upheld. The day after the incident, June 3, large numbers of students had gathered outside the institute following reports of firing, prompting significant deployment of security forces.
