Bhubaneswar: In a move to bolster national security, the Odisha Home Department has issued stringent directives to prevent unauthorised disclosure of sensitive information related to VVIP and VIP visits.
District Collectors, Superintendents of Police (SPs), and other senior police officers have been explicitly instructed to exercise utmost caution in handling and sharing security-related details. Any breach would lead to immediate action and a thorough investigation, according to the state directive.
The communication emphasises “strict due diligence” in managing minute-to-minute programmes, security arrangements, and other operational matters to prevent any unauthorised transmission.
The Odisha government has placed its entire security apparatus on high alert with Additional Secretary (Home) Bhabesh Kumar Nayak, conveying the orders to the Director General of Police (DGP), Director of Intelligence, all District Magistrates, and SPs across the state.
This statewide alert comes in direct response to a communication from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, which raised serious concerns over the leakage of high-profile itineraries and security protocols. The MHA has officially prohibited the sharing of such details on social media platforms, citing risks to national security from unauthorised dissemination of operational information during VVIP visits.
Similar concerns have been flagged in other states in recent times. For instance, the MHA had earlier issued warnings to Kerala over the sharing of VIP itineraries, including those of the Prime Minister, through WhatsApp groups.
