[Watch] Crocodile Gets Tangled In Fishing Net, Rescued & Released Into Mahanadi In Odisha

Cuttack: A crocodile was rescued by a team of forest officials and local fishermen from Madhusudan Setu on river Mahanadi on the outskirts of Cuttack.

The crocodile was spotted in the area on January 28 and had ever since created terror among the people of the area. However, on Monday, it got trapped in a fishing net following which the Forest Department was informed.

Soon, around 45 men from five Forest divisions of Cuttack City, Cuttack, Athagarh, Chandaka and Nandankanan were deployed in the operation. They ventured into the water in three boats, caught the Gharial crocodile and freed from the net after a five-hour long  operation. Later, it was released to the river water.

Mahanadi crocodile rescue yojana advisor Prof Sudarshan Maharana said the crocodile entered the lower catchment areas of Mahanadi due to blasting for fishing purpose in the upper catchment as well as in quarries by the river-side.

Earlier, many crocodiles died due to the same reason. The crocodiles also enter the lower catchment in search of food.
