Nayagarh: Police have arrested two persons in connection with the alleged attack on the official vehicle of Block Development Officer (BDO) of Daspalla in Odisha’s Nayagarh district on June 12.
Those arrested have been identified as Sukanta Behera and Rabi Bhoi, both residents of Ghugudipada village.
According to police sources, the duo was tracked down using CCTV footage and both have confessed to their involvement in the alleged premeditated attack near Nachhipur village when Daspalla BDO Sarat Kumar Mallick was returning to office in his vehicle after completing field-level SIR work. The suspects pelted the vehicle with stones. While the BDO escaped unhurt, the driver sustained injuries and the vehicle’s window glass was damaged.
The officer had then linked the attack to threats he had been receiving from certain individuals.
Sources stated that Behera allegedly held a grudge against the officer after his family’s ration card was canceled, which denied his access to essential government services. He had reportedly raised the issue with local village authorities and the BDO multiple times, but his grievances remained unresolved.
