Bhubaneswar: At least three persons were injured in a violent clash between two groups of youths during a dance event in a hotel in Nayapalli area of Bhubaneswar.
Police sources said the incident took place during a special event organised at a hotel following a verbal altercation between the members of two groups over some trivial issue.
The verbal duel soon spiralled into a violent physical confrontation. Eyewitnesses said the situation escalated rapidly, creating panic among attendees as members of the rival groups allegedly attacked each other.
At least three individuals sustained grievous injuries in the violence. Two of them were rushed to Capital Hospital for treatment, police said.
After receiving information about the disturbance, a team from Nayapalli Police Station and PCR personnel rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Some youths were detained by the police and three of them were later arrested after thorough verification of CCTV footage and necessary investigation.
Those arrested have been identified as Punya Prasanna Mohanty (22) of Kanan Vihar in Bhubaneswar, Ashribad Dhir (25), of Sailashree Vihar, and Nikhil Kumar Sahu (23) of Patharagadia in Bhubaneswar
Police said Punya Prasanna has more than 11 criminal cases registered against him. Further probe is underway to ascertain if more individuals were involved in the violence and if the clash was linked to any prior rivalry.
