Jaipur: A major blaze ripped through a firecracker manufacturing unit in Jaipur’s Khoh Nagoriyan area on Tuesday, killing three people and injuring five, sparking panic in the neighbourhood and mobilising a large emergency response.
The fire erupted at about 11:30 am and rapidly spread across part of the factory, inflicting heavy damage to the premises and raising fears of more explosions because of stored combustible materials.
Fire tenders, ambulances, police teams and a Quick Response Team (QRT) were rushed to the scene soon after authorities received word of the incident.
“The fire brigade reached the spot promptly, and the fire was brought under control within approximately 20–25 minutes. So far, there have been three fatalities and five people have been injured,” an official at the scene told PTI, adding that rescue and relief operations were launched almost immediately.
Officials said the swift containment likely prevented the flames from spreading to neighbouring structures; the blaze was brought under control within 20 to 25 minutes, averting a wider catastrophe.
A multi-agency probe has been launched to establish the cause of the fire and to verify whether the unit complied with safety regulations.
A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was dispatched to inspect the operations at the factory and to identify circumstances that led to the blaze, while the police opened a parallel investigation to determine whether any lapses or violations contributed to the incident.
The condition of the injured was not immediately known. Officials said a detailed assessment of damage and the precise cause of the fire would be available only after investigators complete their inquiry.
