Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday apprehended a senior assistant of Odisha Pharmacy Council along with his associate for allegedly taking Rs 9,000 bribe from an application for registration certificate.
The accused were identified as senior assistant of the Council Biswamohan Pattnaik alias Raja and his associate Md. Izaz Khan alias Prusty.
Vigilance said in a statement that Pattnaik was nabbed for demanding and taking a bribe of Rs 9,000/- from an applicant through to verify documents to facilitate the grant of Pharmacy Registration Certificate.
For about a week, the applicant had been requesting accused Pattnaik for taking steps for issue of Pharmacy Registration Certificate. However, Pattnaik demanded Rs 9,000/- for doing the needful.
When the applicant approached Pattnaik in front of the Odisha Pharmacy Council Office, Bhubaneswar, he repeated his bribe demand and directed him to hand over the bribe money to his Khan. Following this, the complainant reported the matter to vigilance authorities. Following this, a team of Odisha Vigilance nabbed both the accused persons while taking Rs 9,000 from the applicant. The entire tainted bribe money has been seized from them.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations linked to Pattnaik from DA angle. A case has been registered against the two and investigation is in progress.
