Mumbai: Bollywood actor Jacqueline Fernandez has moved the Supreme Court challenging framing of charges against her in the Rs 200-crore money-laundering case linked to alleged conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar.
A bench of justices PK Mishra and AS Chandurkar will hear Jacqueline’s petition on Thursday.
A trial court in Delhi on May 30 ordered the framing of charges against Jacqueline, her alleged boyfriend Chandrasekhar, his wife Leena Maria Paul and several others in connection with Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) probe into the alleged extortion racket.
The ED has said Jacqueline, a Sri Lankan based in India, was in constant touch with Chandrasekhar and allegedly received expensive gifts from him through intermediary Pinky Irani which were allegedly purchased using proceeds of crime generated through an alleged extortion racket run by Chandrashekar from inside jail.
The ED alleged that Jacqueline continued to remain in contact with Chandrasekhar despite being aware of his criminal background.
Jacqueline has consistently denied any wrongdoing, claiming that she was unaware of the alleged illegal origins of the gifts or money involved in the case.
The trial court ordered framing of charges in two separate cases linked to the matter — one in ED’s money laundering case and the other in a parallel case registered by Delhi Police Special Cell and later investigated by the Economic Offences Wing.
