Bhubaneswar: A Booth Level Officer (BLO) on Thursday alleged that he was assaulted by some youths while carrying out Special Intensive Revision (SIR) survey in Bhubaneswar.
The BLO, identified as Ajodhya Narayan Mohanty, has lodged a complaint with the police following the incident. He claimed that people associated with a particular political party were involved in the incident.
According to Mohanty, the incident took place while he was conducting SIR-related work in Booth No. 103 under Ward No. 35 in the capital city. The exercise was being carried out for the Bhubaneswar Central Assembly Constituency (No. 112) as part of the ongoing voter list revision process.
The BLO further alleged that, apart from physically assaulting him, the miscreants forcibly took away his official identity card and the SIR work register. Soon after the incident, Mohanty lodged a written complaint at Kharavel Nagar Police Station.
He has also informed the election authorities about the incident and apprised the election officer concerned of the developments.
It may be noted that BLOs are visiting households to distribute enumeration forms and assist voters in updating their details in the electoral rolls as part of the exercise.
