Bhubaneswar: Winter-like condition prevailed in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on Wednesday when Odisha’s twin cities broke lowest maximum temperature in the month of March.
According to the regional office of India Meteorological Department (IMD) here, Bhubaneswar recorded maximum (day) temperature of 19.2 degree Celsius while Cuttack registered 20 degree Celsius. The minimum temperature till evening was 17.4 degree in Bhubaneswar and 16.5 degree in Cuttack.
The Met office said this was the lowest day temperature in March in Bhubaneswar since 1952. The last lowest temperature in the month was recorded at 24.3 degree Celsius on March 6, 1970 in the city. Following is the list of lowest maximum temperature since 190:
Similarly in Cuttack, the previous lowest maximum temperature of 23.6 degree was recorded on March 6, 1970.
Besides the two cities, two other places recorded maximum temperature of below 20 degree Celsius on the day. While Dhenkanal registered lowest of 18.9 degree Celsius in the state, Nayagarh recorded 19.5 degree.
Meanwhile, the IMD in its evening bulletin has issued yellow warning and forecast that heavy rainfall is very likely (7 cm to 11 cm) at one or two places in the districts of Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh and Gajapati by Thursday morning.
