Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday confirmed that a proposal for providing pension to working journalists is under active consideration by the state government.
Addressing a press conference on the occasion of completion of two years of his government, the Chief Minister said requests for a dedicated pension scheme from various media organisations are being actively examined.
Stating that detailed discussions on the matter have already been held, Majhi said various aspects relating to the proposal are being examined by the government.
A decision on the demand for introduction of a pension scheme for journalists will be taken very soon, Majhi said while responding to queries during the press meet.
It may be noted that media bodies and journalist’ organisations have been consistently seeking a monthly pension similar to models in several states. The Odisha Press Academy previously proposed a contributory pension scheme, which remains under evaluation
Responding to a question on the demand for an effective law for the protection of journalists, Majhi said the matter under consideration and concrete steps would be taken very soon.
The demand for the revival of the state press accreditation committee, which has been inactive for many years, is also being considered actively and appropriate steps would be taken soon, the CM added.
