Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, a woman died and at least 20 others were injured in bee attack at a village in Odisha’s Bhadrak district.
The incident took place at Basuapada village of Erada panchayat under Bhadrak block.
The deceased has been identified as Basantilata Sahu (48), wife of Rajnikant Sahu of the village.
Sources said the incident took place when a large number of relatives had gathered at Basantilata’s residence to attend death anniversary ceremony of her mother-in-law. While food was being prepared outside the house, Basantilata went to serve tea to the cooks. Suddenly, a large swarm of aggressive wild honey bees, which had built a hive on a nearby water tank, attacked the people present.
Basantilata was stung multiple times and suffered severe injuries. Basantilata and 20 others were initially rushed to a hospital at Bhadrak. She was later shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar after her condition deteriorated.
However, she succumbed to her injuries while being treated at the private hospital on Friday, sources said.
