Bhubaneswar: To speed up the issuance of passports, the Odisha Police has decided to go digital.
As per reports, Odisha Police will provide Tablets with pre-installed mPassport Seva mobile app, to all police stations. While the tablets have already been procured, the same will be distributed to every police station soon.
Once the gadgets have been dispatched, everything will be done digitally. From verification to sending reports to SPs, all will be done at a fast pace.
The entire process at present takes 40 to 45 days. However, after introduction of the new system it will take 5 to 10 days. Police plan to shift to digital mode by March end, stated a senior police officer to The New Indian Express.
Manual transfer of files from the offices of district SPs to police stations and back used to consume a lot of time. There are over 600 police stations in Odisha.
As per sources, the regional passport office had sent over 1.20 lakh applications for police verification last year.
Director General of Police (DGP) Abhay on Wednesday reviewed the implementation of the mPassport Seva mobile application in a meeting via video-conferencing with all the senior officers of Odisha Police.
