Should you avoid exercising immediately after being administered the COVID-19 vaccine?
There is no such specific advice by the Health ministry in India yet. But Singapore health authorities updated guidelines on post-vaccination care on Monday, whereby they have asking individuals to avoid strenuous exercise for a week after they have been vaccinated as a “further precautionary measure”.
This precaution is especially for adolescents and men below the age of 30, Bloomberg reported.
Prior to this, there was an advisory to avoid exercise for a 12-24 hour period after vaccination.
Experts feel the new preventive measure comes in the wake of a shocking incident where a vaccinated 16-year-old boy suffered a cardiac arrest while lifting weights at a gym.
The teenager collapsed in the gym on July 3, six days after getting his first dose of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine on June 27.
“The preliminary diagnosis of his condition is an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. Clinical and laboratory tests are in progress to understand the underlying cause,” Singapore’s health ministry stated.
There have been 12 reports of heart problems in vaccinated individuals in Singapore, 7 of whom are males aged below 30 years.
