Muscat, Oman: India’s Ambassador to Oman, Prashant Pise, on Monday met with the 20 Indian sailors from the MT Jalveer in Muscat as they prepared to be repatriated to India, PTI reported.
The crew of the Guinea-Bissau-flagged tanker were brought safely ashore with the cooperation of Omani authorities after an incident on June 11.
“Ambassador of India to Oman interacted with the 20 Indian crew members of MT Jalveer in Muscat ahead of their repatriation to India and wished them a safe journey home,” the Embassy of India in Oman said in a post on X.
The Indian mission reiterated its readiness to provide “prompt assistance and support to Indian nationals in distress and ensuring their welfare and safe return home,” according to the embassy’s statement.
The 20 sailors were evacuated to land on Thursday after the vessel was attacked off an Omani port.
This marks the third case in four days of merchant vessels with Indian seafarers being targeted by strikes off Oman’s coast, involving US military action.
On June 8, US forces disabled the Palau-flagged MT Marivex, which was carrying 24 Indian crew members; all on board were rescued unharmed.
A day earlier, another Palau-flagged tanker, the MT Settebello, was struck by US forces, resulting in the deaths of three of the 24 Indian sailors aboard.
India has stated that the three separate strikes on the Settebello, Marivex, and Jalveer “came from the US Navy”.
