Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced that the critically acclaimed Odia film Mehermunda will be completely tax-free across the state.
The proposal in this regard was approved on Tuesday by the Chief Minister, an official statement said.
Directed by noted filmmaker Nikunj Hota, Mehermunda narrates the inspiring story of Odisha’s weaver community, their daily struggles, unwavering resilience, cultural pride, and ultimate triumphs.
The film, which hit theatres on May 15, 2026, has been widely praised for its authentic portrayal of traditional handloom artistry and the timeless craft that defines Odisha’s identity.
By waiving all entertainment tax on the movie, the state government aims to encourage more people to watch this powerful cinematic tribute to the weavers who have kept Odisha’s glorious textile legacy alive for generations.
