Bhubaneswar: Actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut observed World Environment Day on Friday by planting a sapling in the Odisha capital as part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign.
According to a CMO release, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and the Mandi MP planted saplings at his official residence. Puri MP Sambit Patra was also present. The initiative encourages citizens to plant trees in the name of their mothers, blending emotional connection with environmental conservation.
Earlier speaking to the media, Ranaut expressed her satisfaction at contributing to the drive, which aims to raise awareness about the vital role of trees in combating climate change and fostering a greener India. “On World Environment Day, under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, I planted a sapling in Bhubaneswar,” she stated.
The visit to Odisha served dual purposes for the Mandi MP, who is actively promoting her forthcoming film Bharat Bhagya Vidhata. “Today, the Chief Minister has given us time to watch our film. We are very excited. We hope that the CM and others would connect with the film’s core values and message. ” she said.
Kangana revealed that the title ‘Bharat Bhagya Vidhata’ draws inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s references honouring the contributions of common citizens and workers who shape the nation’s destiny.
In the movie, set for release on June 12, Kangana portrays a dedicated staff nurse. The film is a thriller based on the real-life heroism of hospital workers—particularly nurses—at Mumbai’s Cama and Albless Hospital during the 26/11 terror attacks. It highlights how ordinary women and healthcare staff sheltered and protected nearly 400 patients, including pregnant women and newborns, often at great personal risk, while shifting focus from the attackers to these unsung saviours.
Directed by Manoj Tapadia and produced in association with prominent studios including Pen Studios and Manikarnika Films, the project underscores themes of courage, selfless service, and national resilience.
