Kolkata: Trinamool Congress candidate from Asansol Moon Moon Sen on Monday said that she had no idea about the large-scale poll-related violence in her constituency as she woke up late.
Sen, whose constituency was changed from Bankura to Asansol, said “They gave me my bed tea very late so I woke up very late. Ar ki bolbo bolo (What more can I say?) I really don’t know,” she told reporters.
Early morning violence in the constituency marked the beginning of the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha polls in the state and other parts of the country.
As news channels telecast pictures of Bollywood stars casting their votes in Mumbai and violence in Asansol side-by-side, a TV journalist came out with a gem, “Lights and Camera in Mumbai – action in Asansol”.
BJP and TMC supporters clashed at booths under the Asansol constituency since the poll began on Monday morning.
Union Minister and outgoing BJP MP Babul Supriyo, who is contesting against Sen, was not spared either. The rear window of his vehicle was smashed by hooligans and they ran riot in one of the polling booths.
Supriyo, himself was seen engaged in a verbal duel with a TMC polling agent inside a polling booth.
Reporters from different news channels covering the event also came under attack.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the other hand, made a sensational claim at an election rally at Serampore in West Bengal, which goes to the polls in the fifth phase.
The PM said Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s political survival is at stake as 40 of her MLA are in constant touch with him.
