Bhubaneswar: Distinguished scientist and expert in farm biotechnology Dr Ajit Kumar Shasany has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Odisha (CUO), Koraput.
Dr Shasany currently serves as the Director of CSIR–National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI), Lucknow.
The appointment has been made by the President of India, in her capacity as the Visitor of the Central University of Odisha.
According to an official communication issued by the Union Ministry of Education, Dr Shasany has been appointed for a term of five years.
He has also served as the Director, ICAR-National Institute for Plant Biotechnology, New Delhi and Chief Scientist, Biotechnology Division, CSIR-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Lucknow.
Born in Redhakhol in Sambalpur district of Odisha on in March 1967, Dr Shasany did BSc Ag from OUAT, Bhubaneswar and MSc Agricultural Biotechnology from AAU Jorhat and Ph.D Moleculer Biology and Biotechnology from IARI New Delhi. He did his Postdoc from Purdue University, USA.
