Patna: Ahead of the rescheduled NEET-UG re-examination on June 21, the Bihar Police on Tuesday warned students and their guardians to be wary of rumours and fraudulent phone calls promising question papers and answers, PTI reported.

The Economic Offence Unit (EOU) urged people not to fall for deceptive schemes and said it is monitoring attempts by cyber fraudsters to exploit the exam. The unit reminded the public to remain cautious and report any suspicious messaging or calls that claim to provide leaked material.

“Public is advised not to fall prey to misinformation and fraud calls by cyber fraudsters luring them to provide answer sheets/question papers in the upcoming NEET-UG examination on June 21,” the police said in a notice.

The advisory noted concerns that anti-social elements or cyber fraudsters might try to undermine the exam’s integrity by spreading rumours on social media, and it urged anyone encountering such misinformation to inform the police immediately.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) recently set June 21 for the NEET UG retest after the May 3 exam was cancelled amid allegations of a paper leak; the CBI is probing the incident.

“Those found guilty of engaging in such activities will face severe consequences, including legal actions. A criminal proceeding will be initiated against those who indulge in such activities”, the police advisory said.

The EOU previously arrested Sanjeev Kumar Singh, also known as Sanjeev Mukhiya, whom authorities allege to be the mastermind behind the NEET (UG)-2024 paper leak; he was wanted in several other cases and detained in the state capital.

Mukhiya has also been accused of involvement in the leak of the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) Teacher Recruitment Exam (TRE-3) held in March 2024, the police said.

“If the people receive any suspicious offers or requests from any individual/agency, the matter should be immediately brought to the notice of EOU through email (digeou-bih@gov.in). People can also inform the EOU about such calls on the mobile number 9031829067,” the notice said.

The EOU has issued similar cautions for other upcoming tests, including the Bihar Home Guards clerk exam from June 10–12 and the constable recruitment test scheduled June 14–17.

According to the police, Mukhiya’s gang operates across Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan and has been implicated in multiple paper leaks.

The group is accused of involvement in the Haryana veterinary doctor recruitment exam, the Haryana English teachers’ recruitment test and various competitive exams previously conducted in Uttar Pradesh.
