Balochistan (Pakistan) : The outlawed Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has said it was behind a suicide attack on a Pakistan Coast Guards camp in Balochistan’s Gwadar district, claiming the blast killed more than 30 paramilitary personnel and left several others injured.
In a statement, the group said an explosives-packed vehicle rammed the Panwan Coast Guard base in Jiwani in what it described as a suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device attack as part of a coordinated strike.
“As a result of this powerful blast, the fortified colonial camp of the Coast Guards was completely turned into a heap of rubble,” BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch said in an official statement, as reported by The Balochistan Post.
“Immediately after the attack, our organisation’s vanguard unit, the Fateh Squad, advanced rapidly and in an organised manner, launching an assault on the destroyed camp from all sides,” the statement further said.
Taking responsibility for the strike, the group claimed the blast “completely destroyed” the camp and caused heavy losses among security personnel.
The BLA claimed that more than 30 Pakistani paramilitary personnel were killed in the attack, with dozens more left seriously wounded, and said the death toll could rise further.
“Given the critical condition of the injured and the personnel trapped under the rubble, a further increase in the enemy’s casualties is highly likely,” the spokesperson said.
It added that armed units carried out follow-up operations after the blast at the Coast Guard installation. The group’s media wing, Hakkal, also released a 43-second video it said showed the explosives-laden truck entering the camp moments before the explosion, which was followed by a huge fireball.
