Jaipur: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke was manhandled before an event at Jaipur in Rajasthan on Monday afternoon.
Dipke had called for a peaceful gathering at Shaheed Smarak at 3 pm. He was attacked before he could address the protesters gathered there.
A video obtained by Hindustan Times showed some miscreants in the crowd pulling at his scarf, slapping him multiple times, and attempted to pull him down, while Dipke was being carried on their shoulders of supporters.
More details are awaited.
The CJP is a satirical front that was launched online recently by Dipke. The outfit had earlier announced its nationwide protest campaign, starting with a student gathering in New Delhi. Youth protests then followed at Amritsar, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Lucknow.
The movement was expanding across India Dipke had announced, warning of a return protest in Delhi if Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan did not resign over alleged examination irregularities, including NEET paper leak and CBSE OSM issues. The campaign represented the voice of India’s youth and would continue to grow, he said.
The CJP came into being in May after a remark on certain activities by a section of youth in the country by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant.
Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk had been present at the protest in Delhi while actor Prakash Raj joined the show in Bengaluru on Sunday. The actor demanded that politicians who have attained retirement age step down.
The government is keeping close watch on the activities of the group as there are indications of certain elements wanting to use it to launch massive protests across the country, on the lines of the Gen-Z movement in Nepal and the 2024 uprising in Bangladesh that led to the ouster of prime minister Sk Hasina.
