Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Thursday declared a half-day holiday for government offices in Bhubaneswar on June 20 in view of traffic congestion during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled state-level programme here.
“The second-half of the day on June 20 has been declared holiday for all government offices and revenue and magisterial courts located under Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation limits,” the notification issued by Revenue and Disaster Management Department said.
PM Modi is slated to arrive in Bhubaneswar at 3.40 pm on June 20. He will hold a roadshow and participate in a ‘Tiranga Yatra’ en route to Janata Maidan, the venue of the state government’s first-anniversary function. He will reach the venue by 4.15 pm to attend the programme, which is expected to continue till 5.30 pm. He will leave the venue at 5.35 pm and reach the airport at 5.45 pm by road. He will board the IAF aircraft at 5.50 pm towards Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, for another official programme.

Earlier, the government had declared a holiday for all schools in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on June 20 as the twin cities may witness crowding in view of the PM’s visit.

“Arrangements have been made to host a gathering of more than one lakh people at Janata Maidan. The Prime Minister will arrive late in the afternoon on June 20 and proceed to Janata Maidan in a roadshow. The meeting will be held at Janata Maidan. A few achievements will be showcased through video graphics during the event…,” Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari had earlier told the media.
Odisha BJP president Manmohan Samal said central and state ministers, MLAs and MPs, besides party workers from all the 147 assembly segments, will take part in the anniversary celebrations. The PM will also unveil the state’s ‘Vision Document for 2036’, and launch various projects, he added.
