Bhubaneswar: Heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall may continue to lash Odisha till July 7 under the influence of a well-marked low pressure (LoPAR) over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha- West Bengal coasts, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Saturday.

The system is expected to move west-northwestward across north Odisha and north Chhattisgarh during the next 3 days. Besides, the seasonal trough is running from southwest Rajasthan to the centre of the well-marked LoPAR across Madhya Pradesh, north Chhattisgarh and north Odisha.

Senior meteorologist Umasankar Das described the well-marked low-pressure system with the seasonal trough positioned south of its normal location as “an absolute goosebumps moment”. “The tightly packed isobars depict an impressive 18 hPa pressure gradient over the Bay of Bengal,” he noted.
