Bhubaneswar: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought a detailed report regarding the recent incident involving Chameli Ojha, Sarpanch of Tikhiri Gram Panchayat in Odisha’s Kendrapada district.
The Commission has directed the Collector & District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police of Kenddrapada to submit reports about the incident.
Sources said the NHRC has asked both officials to conduct a proper investigation and submit an Action Taken Report (ATR) within 15 days.
The notice was issued after the Commission received a complaint alleging that Sarpanch Chameli Ojha was assaulted and verbally abused.
In a communication, the NHRC instructed the Kendrapada administration to conduct a thorough investigation and submit findings supported by relevant documents and witness statements. The Commission emphasised accountability and transparency in handling the matter.
Deputy Registrar (Law) Suprava Sahoo signed the letter, which was addressed to both the District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police.
