Kendrapada: Chameli Ojha, Sarpanch of Tikhiri gram panchayat in Odisha’s Kendrapada district, was granted bail by a court in a case related to alleged attack on police personnel.
The woman Sarpanch was granted bail by the court of the SDJM. She secured bail in the case related to the alleged attack on police personnel inside the Mahakalapada block office. The court granted bail on a bond of Rs 30,000 with two sureties.
It may be noted that Ojha was arrested on June 14 on charges of abusing the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Mahakalapada and assaulting two police personnel inside the block office.
Ojha, who was undergoing treatment at the Kendrapada District Headquarters Hospital, was sent to judicial custody after being discharged.
Jail authorities later admitted her to the hospital again amid heavy security as she faced health issues.
On the other hand, Chameli Ojha had alleged that she was assaulted by police and supporters of the local BJP MLA inside the block office and later in custody.
Her arrest has sparked political protests, with BJD and Congress seeking a fair probe. The state government has sought a detailed report from the district authorities regarding the incident.
